TWO COUNTIES - DIVISION 2

 

Witham 1stX1  164-10   East Bergholt 1stX1 242-8

 

Witham visited their 'bogie' ground East Bergholt on Saturday and it still remains so. Bergholt won the toss and decided to bat on a green wicket. Witham's opening attack were put to the sword after 12 overs Bergholt were 68-2. N Jones 52,  D Taylor 55,  M Hayward 30 were removed by Leroy Facey.  Runs still came at a fast rate. Paul Bellehewe returned to the attack and took 3 wickets but Bergholt from their 45 overs scored 242-8.  Paul Bellehewe 4-68 and Leroy Facey 3-68 were the most successful bowlers.

Witham started badly losing Michael Hedley for 3 Richard Green run out for 1 and Jamie Rogers 6. for just 23 runs. Kaan Hawes and Leroy Facey set about restoring some respectability and added 74 before Facey was out for 47. K Hawes 31, J Chick 31, and M McKendry 16 not out added useful runs but Witham were all out for 164 leaving Witham wondering why they had not used the bowling conditions to better effect.

 

 

TWO COUNTIES -  DIVISION 5

 

Witham 2nd X1 205-9 -  Maldon 2nd X1 131-10

 

Maldon came to Witham with 100% win record. Batting first Witham lost Duncan Jenkinson for 9 but a stand of 90 between Robert Rainsley and James Suett saw Witham reach 102 off 25 overs before Robert Rainsley was out for 44. James Suett scored a splended 59  and a controlled knock by Sam Denney of 45 not out enabled Witham to Reach 205 -9. 

Maldon openers S Rudd and B Gibbons reached 65 before being parted. S Rudd 43 and B Gibbons 37.  Maldon lost their 2nd wicket on 99 then Peter Preston got to work taking 8 wickets for 55 runs. He was ably supported by Witham's fielding with some superb catching,  Greg Taylor taking 3.  Witham ended up victors by 74 runs.

 

 

TWO COUNTIES - DIVISION 7

 

Witham 3rd X1  243-5  - Eye & District 245-5

 

Witham batted first and had lost both openers by the time the score had reached 53. Martin McKendry made a superb 100 batting at number 3. He was well supported by 

Rihan Farman 27. Rob Trigg 30 and Will Smith 23 not out.  The total of 243-5 looked like a formidable challenge for the visitors.

The Eye & District openers batted aggressively and punished some lack-lustre Witham bowling putting on 159 before Karl Kahn bowled  A Huggins for 85. Dave Beatty had P Shelley caught by keeper Rob Trigg for 79 and also removed the Eye no 3 by taking a return catch.  Danny Steadman and Will Smith claimed a wicket each but the visitors ended up by winning by 5 wickets. Will Smith 1-13, Dave Beatty 2-26, Danny Steadman 1-26 returned the best bowling figures.

 

PDQ CARS  PREMIER DIVISION

 

Witham 220-6  - Clacton 221-9

 

Witham won the toss and skipper Jamie Rogers decided to bat. After 3 balls Witham had lost Michael Headley and Grey Taylor was out with the score at 8. A partnership of 83 between Duncan Jenkinson 43  and Kaan Hawes.  Kaan Hawes went on to complete a superb century playing shots all around the wicket and was finally out for 115.  A swashbuckling innings of 22 not out by Paul Bellehewe hitting 18 runs off the last over.  Kaan Hawes and Paul Bellehewe were well supported by young Oscar Spence, leaving Witham 220-6 off their 45 overs.

Clacton got off to a reasonable start losing  2 wickets for 46.  M Cumber  70 and M Beason 28 put Clacton what seemed to be heading towards a comfortable win. However  young Witham Skipper Jamie Rogers had different ideas and bought himself on to bowl taking 6-53 and Clacton tottering on 202-9. Clacton managed the 10 remaining runs and won by 1 wicket.
