Witham's run feast of last week ended abruptly at the weekend with only Mike Headley scoring 83.
Two Counties Division 2 Witham 1st X1 232-8 v Haverhill 1st X1 233-7
Witham travelled to Haverhill, won the toss and decided to bat. Kahn Hawes and Michael Headley put on 67 in 10 overs which seamed to be on course for another big score. However the situation changed with Hawes being out for 21 runs. In -form Richard Green only scored 9 and Witham lost further quick wickets and with the score of 144-6 Headley was out for a brilliant 83. John Chick contributed a quick 24. Dan Ward and Paul Bellehewe came together and added 46 for the eighth wicket giving Witham 232-8 off their 45 overs. Witham failed to get a wicket until the 14th over when Peter Allen struck having Godwin LBW for 28. Young Jamie Rogers bowled 10 respectable overs taking the wickets of the dangerous Dellar and Powell, finishing with figures of 3-50. Paul Bellehewe chipped in with 3 wickets however the ex England and Yorkshire player Chis Silverwood steadied the ship and saw Haverhill home by 3 wickets.
Two Counties Division 5 Witham 2nd X1 105 - Mistley 2nd X1 - 107-1 Witham's two opening batsmen who put on 255 for the 1st wicket last week were not playing and only Dave Wilson 34 and James Suett 20 could produce respectable innings. Wiham were then 83-5. A complete collapse saw Witham lose their last 5 wickets for 20 runs and the innings closed on a miserable 105. Sam Denney was the only Witham bowler to take a wicket.P Palmer 38 not out and S Barwood 35 not out Mistley reached their target losing only 1 wicket.This was very disappointing as this was Witham's first defeat of the season.
Two Counties Division 7 Witham 3rd X1 130-10 - Sudbury 3rd X1 132-2 Batting first Witham got off to a good start with Dave Beatty 29 and Grady O'Brien 27 making 47 for the first wicket. The score had moved along to 69-5 when disaster struck and Witham lost 5 wickets for only 3 runs. From a low point of 72-6 the Witham tail did well to get the score up to 130, Stuart Facey batted well for 19 and Anthony Facey made a useful 21 down the order. Sudbury bowler H Wright took 5-23. The Sudbury batsmen made short work of the low Witham score, Colin Walters made a hard hitting 77 not out to seal the victory. Phil Desborough picked up the only 2 Sudbury wickets to fall. Sudbury won by 8 wickets. |
