Witham
Cricket Club History
|
Witham Cricket Club was founded in 1847 and the ground can be found just 150 yards from the town centre. The ground is situated in 10.5 acres of land, surrounded by trees and parkland. The club is proud of the fact that in the early years W.G.Grace and the first Aborigine side to the UK played on the park.
In 1993 Witham Cricket Club amalgamated with Bramston Cricket Club which greatly strengthened the club and we are pleased to say that although we are now very much one friendly club, there are still representatives of both former clubs playing and running the club.
Since 1997 when the club celebrated its 150 year Anniversary, We have been lucky enough to host a guest X1 which has generally contained 4-5 ex test players. Those to have played at the park include, Derek Randall (on many occasions), David Capel, Gladstone Small, Norman Cowans, Roland Butcher and Phil Simmons. |
